Screw the Magic-Kingdom

No, this isn’t some anti-Disney rant. This is an outpouring of frustration with the fantasy genre’s saturation with save-the-magic-kingdom and a-young-boy-finds-his-destiny-in-a-faraway-land-threatened-by-evil plots. I’m sick of them. Bored with it. Yawnsville. After over 20 years of reading this stuff I can’t take any more of it.

Eddie Izzard Meets H.P. Lovecraft

So, if you’re familiar with both these individuals, you’re probably raising an eyebrow or shouting, “how is that even possible!” at your computer. If you’re doing the latter, calm down. Deep breaths. Put the coffee away. It’s a metaphorical ‘meeting’. more »

Jane Austin Needs More Vikings

What The?

This project has been going on since about 2006. It’s just taken awhile to get to a state where anything can go up.

I Repeat. What The?

This is a project to create a four panel cartoon for each major section of one of Jane Austin’s books. Currently, I’m working on Pride and Prejudice because I like that one the best. These are surreal and VERY silly. And surreal. Did I mention surreal? How about silly? Oh. Okay. Good.

WHY?

In 2006 I was having dinner with some friends who were down for San Diego’s Comic-con. Perhaps you’ve hard of it? Anyway, we got to talking (and this was WAY before the whole zombies and sea monsters thing) about how you can throw anything into Jane Austin books. Like vikings. And we started giggling about the kinds of things vikings would do in a Jane Austin book. And it was so good, I decided to make a site out of it.

Okay, But This is a Book Blog

Yeah. Domain names aren’t that expensive, but I didn’t really have any clear idea then of what JANMV would be. So I had to come up with something else to justify the site while I worked that out. So, there you go.

So WHEN Do We Get to See Some of These Cartoons?

I’m almost half way through. I like to think. I’ve been doing them as ideas came to me instead of starting at the beginning. So the scenes they cover are all over the place. But I have enough for the beginning that I can start getting them up as soon as finish the one for the first scene.

So, This is Going to be a Web Comic?

Uh, pretty much. Yeah.

Why isn’t the Capitalization in your Titles consistent?

Because I’m in a hurry.
